Adult Ministries

St. Andrew's is rich with opportunities to help you increase in the knowledge of scripture, grow spiritually, be in fellowship with others and became a more faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. There is a wide range of classes requiring various levels of involvement and background knowl-edge. Updates on the latest classes and small group offerings are made available in the church bulletin, Andy (the church newsletter), and on the website. Check every four to six weeks to see what is being taught in the next cycle of church studies or what new groups are being formed for study and/or fellowship.

Sunday School

Classes for adults are held at the same time as each of the worship services (8:15, 9:45 and 11:15am) to give you the opportunity to both attend a class and participate in the worship ser-vice of your choice. All classes for adults take place on the second floor of Disciples' Hall. Topics and study materials vary from class to class. For a current list of classes and class top-ics pick up an information sheet from the Welcome Table outside the sanctuary, or call the church office.

DISCIPLE

There are four programs in this long term Bible study program with each program scheduled for a minimum of two and one-half hours per week and lasting between 32 and 34 weeks. The first DISCIPLE study serves as the foundation for the other three. It is a 34 week class that covers the entire Bible following the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. DISCIPLE II offers a deeper examination of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts, emphasizing the rhythm of coming to God and going for God, approaching all of life's experiences as opportunities for faithful witness and service. DISCIPLE III is an in-depth study of the Letters of Paul and exam-ines the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. In DISCIPLE IV par-ticipants see the entire process of living toward final rest and reward. There is an emphasis on worship that includes an in-depth study of Psalms, the Old Testament Writings, the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, James, Jude and Revelation. New classes form in the fall of each year with about twelve persons in each group. For more info DISCIPLE

Small Groups

Small Groups meet in various locations and at various times for Bible Study, accountability and fellowship. New groups are created throughout the year. Watch the bulletin, the church news-letter and the church for information regarding newly formed small groups.

Monday Morning Bible Study

Every Monday morning at 10:00 am, women gather in Room 424 of Disciples' Hall for study and fellowship. The group meets from September through May. Study topics vary.

Thursday Morning Bible Study

Every Thursday morning from 9:30 - 11:00 am, August through June, a group of women meet in Room 421 of Disciples' Hall for study and fellowship. Study topics vary from reading and discussing a best seller, delving into an in-depth study of scripture to a time of sharing thoughts about a recent article in a newspaper or magazine. The conversation is lively, the material in-teresting and all participants grow in their Biblical knowledge and faith as they study together. Contact: Angia Snyder 689-6849, ext.204

Adult Ministry Council

The Adult Discipleship Council is charged with the responsibility of developing a program by, with and for adults that will help each person in all of their adult life stages be nurtured in their faith as a disciple of Jesus Christ, through a variety of both short-term and long-term Christian educational opportunities including Bible study, mutual accountability and other faith-forming practices.

Emmaus

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church. The Emmaus Walk typically begins Thursday evening and concludes Sunday evening. Men and women attend separate weekends. It is available twice a year, typically in the Fall and Spring.
